Engineer to leacture students on the use of maths

The engineer responsible for ensuring that Arsenal's Emirates Stadium stands up is to take on the daunting task of explaining the importance of maths to 400 GCSE and A-level students.
Buro Happold senior analyst Paul Shepherd is taking part in an initiative called Maths Inspiration next Thursday, aimed at showing 16 to 18-year-olds that 'mathematics has a life beyond the classroom.'The aim is to encourage students to consider a mathematical degree, whether that be pure maths, engineering or one of the other sciences,' said Shepherd.Maths Inspiration kicks off on 16 November at the Greenwich Theatre, south east London. It will go on tour to Leeds, Cardiff and Exeter next year.
