Emap buys Telford directories

THE INSTITUTION of Civil Engineers has sold its directory publishing business to Emap Construct, in effect tidying up a remnant from the sale of the Thomas Telford magazine business in June 1995.

Three of the six directories are linked with magazines already published by Emap: the NCE Roads, Traffic & Transport Directory, the Ground Engineering Yearbook and the Offshore Engineer Procurement Guide.

Emap Construct managing director Simon Middelboe said: 'The deal means reuniting the old business and will enable us to give a much clearer message to the market place.'

Thomas Telford - ICE's commercial arm - managing director Hugh Ferguson said the sale would 'clear the decks' enabling his company to concentrate on its core book and journal business under a four year strategic plan.
