The Construction Industry Trading Electronically initiative is working to set up single data standards allowing the exchange of a wide range of documents. Latest work is developing standards for site based documents such as requests for information.

The idea is that firms can handle one anothers electronic documents, no matter what software is used. Benefits include saving days of work re-entering complex data; and being able to maintain the links between the various messages on an issue.

Projects under CITE include developing common standards for bills of quantity, invoicing, requests for information and tender submission, delivery notes and so on.
