Ego trip

Letters

I cannot agree with the opinions expressed by Antony Oliver regarding the Olympic Games (NCE last week). We are now five years away from the opening and already the original estimate of the cost has quadrupled.

My local hospital has to close down services for lack of money and a necessary road improvement in this area has now been postponed to 2012.

I would suggest that the final cost of this Olympic exercise will be in excess of £20bn. The area could have been developed for low cost housing at a fraction of the cost.

Still, there is always the lottery fund to raid if we fall on hard times. The only people to benet from this project will be the politicians who will no doubt collect honours and awards.
