Joint Deep Foundations Institute and European Federation of Foundation Contractors conference and accompanying exhibition organised by Ground Engineering and European Foundations magazines.
The event will be a platform for networking and debate on the hottest issues affecting the foundations industry, with delegates and exhibitors representing public and private clients, consultants, contractors, specialist suppliers and academics from around the world.
To be held at the NH Krasnapolsky Hotel in the Dam in the heart of Amsterdam, the threeday conference will be split into three sections: day one, technical;
day two, focus on Amsterdam's North-South Line project; and day three, business-related issues.
The technical day will cover foundation techniques - current practice and new technology;
deep excavations; databases and information technology;
monitoring and testing.
Business issues will include managing geotechnical risk - risk transfer, insurance and quality control systems; environmental impact of foundation work - waste, noise and vibrations; health and safety and working conditions.
The morning sessions on days one and three will be presentations of selected papers on the main themes (see call for papers below), while the afternoons will be set aside for presentations and expert panel discussions on the key issues surrounding those themes.
Day two will be devoted to Amsterdam's North-South Line project. The morning session will examine the metro scheme that will run through the heart of the city, from planning and procurement through to construction, with representatives from the entire project team.
In the afternoon delegates will have the opportunity to visit some of the construction sites, including three underground stations near the conference hotel.

Call for papers Abstracts of no more than 400 words should be submitted by 15 July 2005. Acceptance of abstracts is scheduled for 31 August 2005. All authors of accepted abstracts will be required to submit written papers, up to 15 pages long.

Detailed format requirements will be available from the conference website (www.pilinganddeepfoundations.com). Draft papers must be submitted to Max Soudain by 30 November 2005.
From the accepted draft papers, a limited number of authors will be chosen to make an oral presentation at the conference.
Accepted papers in their final form must be returned to Max Soudain by 28 February 2006.
