Energy firm EdF Energy announced today it will be cutting jobs on its Hinkley Point C new nuclear project.
EdF said it needed to control costs and “refocus” the project but will continue with pre-construction engineering work will take place ahead of the construction phase.
Its announcement comes after protracted negotiations between the firm and the government of the strike price - a fixed long term electricity price - to help finance construction.
“As part of good project management, and to control costs, EDF Energy has taken steps to refocus its activities at its Hinkley Point C project,” said the firm in a statement. “This reflects its priorities ahead of securing the financing necessary for the project.”
NCE reported last week that EdF was unlikely to announce a construction start date for Hinkley Point C for at least another three months.
