Eccentricity bill

It is unfortunate that while Adam Hart Davies is presenting a very informative series on current major civil projects on BBC Radio 4 (under the title Engineering Solutions), he stared out from the cover of Radio Times (31 July) as one of 'TV's 40 best-loved eccentrics'.

Those involved with presenting engineering and science featured heavily in this list of eccentrics - Patrick Moore, David Bellamy, Fred Dibnah, Magnus Pyke and Bob Symes as well as Adam H-D.

Eccentricity has always played a valuable role in engineering, but fortunately not as large a role as the media luvvies obviously believe.
