Dutch partnership secures contract to construct new Indonesian island

Construction of a new island suburb off the coast of Jakarta, Indonesia has moved a step closer to reality with the award of a contract by PT Muara Wisesa Samudra to Van Oord and Boskalis for design and construction of the 160ha artificial island.

Under the €350M (£265M) deal, Van Oord and Boskalis will dredge more than 20M.m3 of sand to reclaim the land for Pluit City and undertake soil improvement and rock revetment work to prepare the new island for residential and commercial development.

Work on the project is expected to start this month and is expected to be completed in 2018.
