Dubai goes super slim

A new 'superslim' 77 storey tower has been proposed for Dubai's Sheikh Zayed Road.

Halfway up the 379m, 77 storey tower, an angled atrium cuts through the building to create a void over several storeys. This atrium serves the five-star business hotel above and hosts a group of supporting amenities for the 18 floors of offices underneath. The top 19 floors of the tower are residential.

"This design intends to integrate contemporary architectural thought, with innovative engineering solutions," said Head of Architecture for Atkins in Abu Dhabi, Joe Tabet.

Construction is due to start in November this year with completion scheduled for 2011.
