Drawing straws

Two-thirds of the UK's chickens and turkeys come from East Anglia. They are raised in massive open plan sheds, perhaps 20,000 in a single building. Day old chicks are put on to new woodchippings and straw that cover the floor; seven weeks later - longer for turkeys - they are taken away and the litter is collected.
