Tunnelling specialist Delta Civil Engineering has just completed construction of a pumping station in Gloucester Docks near Bristol. The reinforced concrete structure is the first stage of a £1.8M contract for British Waterways which will allow the dock basin, and the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal to which it connects, to be topped up from the nearby River Severn. The contract will be wrapped up by November and will guarantee levels in the canal - not only a popular leisure facility but also the source for half the drinking water in Bristol.
