Directors in line for prosecution

LETTERS

The call to jail directors responsible for employee safety (NCE 7 February) is hardly new. The British Safety Council ran a conference and discussion on the subject last July with Home Office Minister Keith Bradley MP as the keynote speaker.

We are holding another one, specifically for the public sector, on 16 April at the Institution.

The construction industry has a dreadful safety record, and when the new legislation is introduced directors of construction companies can expect to be at the front of the queue for prosecution, unless they do something positive right away.

David Ballard (F), director general, British Safety Council, 70 Chancellors Road, London W6 9RS
