Are we over reacting to the European inspired law (NCE last week) requiring the widening of tunnels and lengthening of platforms on high speed railway lines?

Instead we should be welcoming such proposals, so long as the EU foots the bill for the cost of the work and consequential disruption to traffic.

Perhaps the directive also applies in Ireland, when one assumes the lines from Dublin to Cork and Belfast will have to be regauged from the 5ft 3in gauge to 4ft 8 Peter Tatlow (M) lms14690@btinternet. com
