Different degrees

The joint board of moderators accredits university degree courses every five years to make sure they meet the educational base required by the Engineering Council (UK) for chartered, incorporated and technician grade membership to the ICE, Institution of Structural Engineers and Institution of Highways & Transportation.

In 1999 most degree courses were re-evaluated to meet Sartor 3 requirements, under which an MEng became the benchmark qualification for a chartered engineer and an BEng the benchmark for an incorporated engineer.
