THIS YEAR'S Deep Foundations Institute's international conference in Nice in June will feature a special panel session to discuss the progress and issues surrounding Eurocode 7.
It is one of nine sessions in a wide and varied programme that will cover the most important issues in deep foundations and the panel will include active members of the Eurocode core group. Special attention will be given to floor discussions so that participants can share their views on technical and contractual matters.
The list of session chairmen is a Who's Who of the international foundations industry, including Harry Poulos, Mike O'Neill, Alain Pecker, Professor AF Van Tol, Professor Victor de Mello, Professor Carlo Viggiani, Flor de Cock, David Sherwood and Michel Bustamante.
The John Mitchell Lecture will be given by the presdient of the International Society of Soil Mechanics and Ground Engineering Professor William Van Impe.
This is the DFI's ninth international conference on piling and deep foundations, held in association with the EFFC. The venue is the Acropolis Convention Centre in Nice, France, from 3-5 June. The conference is being organised with the CFMS (the ISSMGE French Chapter) and SOFFONS (French Association of Foundation Contractors).
More than 120 papers from around the world have been submitted. Conference topics are:
soil dynamics and deep foundations in seismic areas
on-going development of Eurocodes 7 and practical applications (panel session).
information technology and deep foundations, monitoring of execution
new trends in the design with relation to new installation procedures
piled rafts, new approaches of load-transfer and pile-soil-raft interaction
contractual aspects of deep foundations, benchmarking, risk associated with foundation engineering (panel session)
case histories of special projects.
An exhibition will showcase the latest technology and innovations from some of the biggest players in the foundations industry.
The programme also features a technical visit by boat along the French Riviera to the new dam and harbour in the Port of Monaco.
