Detectors chart university utilities

CONTRACTS

IMPRESSED BY 40Seven's non-intrusive surveying to verify the locations of the high voltage underground cables beneath its campus, Manchester University expanded the scheme to chart the rest of the site's hidden utilities.

For the cables the company used RD4000 radio detection equipment to create an electromagnetic field which was picked up by a receiver.

But in locating non-metallic utilities, 40Seven surveyors switched to an Easy Locater equipped with ground penetrating radar.

Work on the £100,000 contract will finish this autumn.
