Denham new communities secretary

John Denham has been appointed as Communities secretary, replacing Hazel Blears who resigned earlier in the week, in Gordon Brown’s emergency cabinet reshuffle this morning.

The reshuffle comes as Labour is receiving its predicted drubbing at the polls.

The latest cabinet changes:

Alistair Darling will remain as Chancellor

Jack Straw remains as Justice Secretary

Lord Mandelson remains as Business Secretary but is rumoured to be taking on responsibility for skills & science

Jim Murphy remains as Scottish Secretary

David Miliband stays as Foreign Secretary

Alan Johnson moves from Health to become Home Secretary

Sir Alan Sugar takes a peerage and become an Enterprise Tsar

Defence Secretary John Hutton stands down and will leave parliament at the next election.
