RESPONSIBILITY FOR driving forward the Olympic Games construction programme has initially fallen to an interim body led by the Greater London Authority.
'The London 2012 organisation goes into a transition team which will hold the baby until the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (LOCOG) is established, ' a London 2012 offi cial told NCEI after the result of the bid was announced. This organisation, known as the Olympic Delivery Group, will take charge until LOCOG is in place this month.
The interim group is headed by London mayor Ken Livingstone's senior policy adviser Neale Coleman.
LOCOG will initially take charge of procurement until the government has established the Olympic Delivery Agency.
The Bill went before Parliament last month. It provides the necessary planning and compulsory purchase powers to secure land in the Lower Lea Valley which is not already committed to the Games.
It also sets up a dedicated Olympic lottery to generate funds for the construction programme.
ome major procurement work for the Games has already begun. The London Development Agency has issued tenders for:
Design of the Olympic Park and infrastructure (excluding venues);
Demolition and remediation contracts.
