Day one: landfill


Moderator: Dr Marion Carter

Discussions will focus on the future of landfill as a disposal route, the performance of barriers, leachate treatment and the settlement and compaction of waste.

Day two: remediation

Discussion topics include the detection of contaminants, the risk of action versus non-action, successful and unsuccessful case histories, the necessity for multiple techniques for successful remediation and imported technologies.

Day three: risks and regulations

Moderator: Professor Rolf Katzenbach

Panellists: Dr Bob Harris, Dr Gwyn Griffiths, Professor Harald Kassamas and Professor Michael Loxham.

Areas for discussion include risk assessment procedures, comparisons with other risks, the extent of data available in support of risk assessment/ regulations, current UK regulations, European perspectives and the limitations of risk assessment.
