David Rowlands

Prime Minister Tony Blair has this week appointed David Rowlands as permanent secretary of the Department for Transport. Rowlands is considered the industry's choice to bring the 10 year transport plan back on track with his experience in the rail industry and integrated transport. The appointment is seen as a sign of the Prime Minister's frustration at transport secretary Alistair Darling's lack of impact.
