CTRL contract let

UNION RAILWAYS South has let the fifth of its six civil engineering contracts on Section 1 of the £4.2bn Channel Tunnel Rail Link to a Hochtief/Norwest Holst joint venture.

The £85M Contract 420 Mid Kent (Boxley to Lenham Heath) will include construction of 20km of high speed track, 1km of cut and cover tunnels at four locations, diversion of 5km of existing roads, 25 new bridges and extensive landscaping and environmental mitigation.

Work is expected to start on site in the spring.

In addition, civils work is now under way on Contract 330 East Thames, Contract 350 Medway Crossing, Contract 410 North Downs Tunnel, and Contract 430 Ashford, bringing the total awards to £425M.
