NCE Graduate of the Year Lucy Penman last week met construction minister Nigel Griffiths to discuss how she would use the award to promote engineering to more young people. Penman is an assistant civil engineer for Taylor Woodrow, working on the King's Cross Underground redevelopment project. 'I hope the additional work I undertake to promote civil engineering over the next year will attract more young people into the profession, ' she told Griffiths.

Griffiths backed her efforts and said that the government shared her goals. 'We are keen to make constructionrelated careers the first choice for school leavers, ' he said.

'Lucy is a real ambassador for the civil engineering profession. I'm confident she'll make a real impact in her chosen field, ' he added.
