Crossrail wins NCE readers support as highest priority transport scheme in the UK

Crossrail has been named by NCE readers as the highest priority UK transport project and the scheme most in need of immediate government support. More engineers named the cross London rail project than any other scheme when asked by NCE's 'Stop the Transport Cuts' campaign to identify priority projects for government over the next three years.

Other projects attracting support included widening of the M1, a new high speed north-south rail link and extension of the M74 in Scotland.

Also highlighted was the need for a second crossing of the Mersey at Runcorn.
