Crash beyond Network Rail's control


Last November's Ufton Nervet level crossing crash was caused by events beyond Network Rail's control, the Rail Safety & Standards Board has concluded. A high speed train from London to Plymouth hit a stationary car on the line at the half barrier crossing. The board has recommended the construction of overbridges where practicable and the development of a warning system to alert train drivers to obstructions on the line.
