Council is doing its job by leading

Letters

I have become concerned at some of the letters written in criticism of the decisions made at Council, some of which come from senior members of the Institution whose views I respect.

However, I am a member of Council and was present when this subject was debated and voted upon. I do not believe Council has in any way been misled. There was a good debate on the subject on both occasions and the voting which followed was clear. Council took the view that it was happy to recognise the future higher value of IEng.

Council also considered very carefully whether a ballot of members should be called, and decided it would not be appropriate on this matter.

Council further considered it had the responsibility to lead the way towards the cohesive, inclusive Institution we must have in the future.
