Costain lines up for £12bn Olympic chase

CONTRACTOR COSTAIN said this week it was wooing potential Olympic park construction partners ahead of the award of major design and programme management contracts.

It hopes to pounce on construction contracts and has recently made presentations to firms shortlisted for the design work.

'We are keeping our daily networking going and would like to think we have a good dialogue with all of the prospective candidates, ' said Costain business development director Stephen Wells.

Winners of these contracts are expected to be involved in procuring construction contracts.

Costain's strategy is to bid for work on an estimated £12bn of Olympic related water, transport and other infrastructure in London ahead of the Games.

It is targeting projects like the East London Line upgrade and Stratford regional railway station. Associated roads jobs and neighbouring property developments like Stratford City, just outside the Olympic park, are also targets.

The contractor has ruled out bidding for the high profile Olympic stadium as it has no recent record of working on such projects.
