CONTRACTS

CONTRACTS

Contractor Jackson Civil Engineering last month started lifting in the first of 345 precast concrete units which will create a 320m tunnel over the Chiltern railway line at Gerrards Cross in Buckinghamshire.

Subcontractor PCE used a 160t crawler crane to lift the first 23.5t unit into place during a 29 hour railway possession.

Installation will continue at night, with about five units placed during each four hour possession. The tunnel will create 18,000m2 of land above the railway, which will be used to build a new Tesco supermarket (GE September 2003).

Designer for the work is White Young Green.
