Simplex Foundations completed piling for phase one of the £31m St Paul's Square development in Liverpool last month.

With three rigs and a service crane on the £400,000 contract, Simplex installed 266 load bearing piles and 170 contiguous wall piles for the basement construction, as well as 18 tower crane piles.

The development on the city centre site, which is close to the waterfront area, comprises three multi-storey buildings. These include offices, restaurant spaces, residential apartments and car parking for 366 vehicles.

Contractor for the scheme, Shepherd Construction, is working for developer English Cities Fund. This latter comprises a joint venture between AMEC, English Partnerships and Legal & General.

St Paul's Square is due for completion in April 2007.
