Contract relief

PRACTICAL HELP in drafting and working with construction contracts is now on offer from a new website that analyses and compares over 30 engineering contracts in an interactive matrix.

The site promises to be an essential aid to any contractor, consultant, contract draftsman, lawyer, project manager or quantity surveyor engaged in drafting a bespoke contract by helping to select the most appropriate suite and type of standard form as a base and decide what extensions and enhancements are necessary.

Contracts-Expert. com has selected 32 of the most important traditional and recently introduced contract forms, including ICE, JCT, IChemE, FIDIC and the NEC.

Newer public sector forms such as Early Contractor Involvement and the prime contract are also covered.

The user selects which contracts to compare, and the matrix shows how each deals with 440 topics, arranged in 22 topic groups. These include basic deliverables, final amount payable, risks and insurance.

Differences in approach and gaps in coverage are readily apparent.
