Construction product firms report growth

Construction product makers have reported an eighth successive quarter of growing sales.

A balance of 33% of manufacturers of heavy side items such as cement and steel told the Construction Products Association that they sold more in the first three months of 2015 than in the final three months of last year.

A balance of 14% of those making light side products such as doors and lighting systems saw growth over the same period.

The last time either group saw a decline in sales was the first quarter of 2013, although light side sales were flat the quarter after that.

Although the latest figures were the lowest balances since then, manufacturers were optimistic about the future.

A balance of 63% of heavy side manufacturers and 50% of light side manufacturers anticipated further growth in the second quarter of this year.
