Connect Plus to hold supplier day for barrierless Dartford crossing

M25 upgrade and maintenance consortium Connect Plus is to hold a supplier day next week to set out its expectations from the supply chain with regards to its plans to create a barrierless toll at the Dartford Crossing.

Winning bids will be awarded work on the four-year, £75M M25 motorway network improvement works framework agreement, which includes the Dartford Crossing work as well as other smaller improvement schemes on the M25 and the associated motorways and major roads are also anticipated to be required over the lifetime of the framework contract.

The contract will be structured either as two separate frameworks (one framework for Civils works and one framework for technology works) or as a single framework. In both instances bidders will be able to bid for one or both frameworks.

What the work involves

Civils works at Dartford may include new signalling gantries, demolition of existing toll booths, realignment of carriageways including change from multi-lane to four lane carriageways, and all associated kerbing and footpaths, drainage, services diversions, lighting, fences and gates, traffic barriers signs and markings and traffic management.

Technology works associated with the Dartford Crossing project may include supply, install, test and commission signs and signalling, vehicle height and width sensor technology, new traffic signals and road barrier systems, variable speed limit and managed motorway or equivalent signals and signing, UTC and traffic signals, ramp metering and CCTV.

The 4 year forward works programme also includes significant strengthening works to a reinforced concrete structure.

Other civils improvement works within this framework may include improvements to vehicle restraint systems, alterations to or relocation of signage (including new gantries where applicable), new street lighting, widening or realignment of carriageways, improvements to drainage and drainage systems and noise abatement schemes.

Technology improvements may include changes, additions or upgrades to CCTV cameras and systems, traffic signals and matrix signs, network cabling and infrastructure, midas loops and non-intrusive replacements. VMS Signs, incident detection systems and safety cameras. Other schemes may include new or replacement digital enforcement camera systems, traffic signals and ramp metering and enhancements to control rooms.
