Confusion as ODA delays publication of Olympic stadium bidding shortlist

OLYMPIC STADIUM bidding teams said this week that they are being kept in the dark as to why the announcement of a shortlist had been delayed.

The stadium shortlist was due to be published at the end of September, but as NCE went to press, an Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) spokeswoman said it did not know when it would be produced (NCE 28 September).

ODA is believed not to have told bidders why the shortlist has not yet been announced.

One source said the delay could be because the ODA is considering bids that came in late from losing bidders for the Olympic Delivery Partner contract. They would have been free to bid for the stadium from Monday this week when CLM was confi rmed as the delivery partner.

Another source on the Olympic project suggested ODA had just not had enough quality bids and could be doing some lobbying to beef up the list.

Teams reported to be bidding for the stadium include frontrunners Sir Robert McAlpine, HOK and Buro Happold. Others are believed to include URS Corporation and Foster & Partners, Arup and Alpine Bau Deutschland, Whitbybird and a 'non-European' contractor.
