18 May, 27 Sussex Place, London Megatunnels Dealing with the challenges of large-scale tunnelling projects President of New York's Mass Transit Authority, Mysore L Nagaraga, is giving the keynote address at NCE's Megatunnels event, outlining details of the city's massive Second Avenue Subway scheme. Also featured will be insight into the report covering the collapse of the Nicoll Highway cut and cover tunnel in Singapore. This will be by the man who led the expert witness team appointed by client the Land Transport Authority, Richard Davies - Benaim Group's director of geotechnical engineering.

Managing risk in design will be addressed by Arup global tunnels business leader Bill Grose; while Amec Construction Services tunnel contracts director Peter South will deal with risk in construction.

www. megatunnels. com 7 June 2005, Royal Aeronautical Society, London Congestion busting: Assessing the options for effective transport management The government's 10 Year Plan for Transport in 2000 officially recognised congestion as a major burden on local authorities, businesses and the public. The second round of provisional Local Transport Plans, due to be submitted in July, will detail each authority's strategies to tackle congestion within an integrated transport framework. This one day event is designed specifically to address the key causes of congestion and highlight effective strategies to combat it.

Speakers include: Mike Talbot, Department for Transport's head of traffic management; Professor George Hazel; Highways Agency director of Network Strategy Richard Eastman; director of congestion charging at Transport for London Malcolm Murray-Clark.
