Concrete specialist O'Rourke


Concrete specialist O'Rourke has bought rival subcontractor Swift from previous owners MD Halligan and MJ Halligan. The Halligans are brothers of chairman Ray O'Rourke's wife. O'Rourke has expanded rapidly over the last few years and currently has a turnover of £230M.

Bechtel has appointed Mike Adams managing director of the rail division in Hammersmith. He is joined in London by David Waboso as vice president for rail projects with worldwide responsibilities. Other additions to the railways team are Rob Porter, principal vice president in special projects for rail, and operations manager for infrastructure Jeremy Beeton.

The Engineering Council has launched 'Junior engineers for Britain' a nationwide challenge for 2000. It is open to children aged 7-10 years. Competitors will be set a construction task using construction toy K'Nex. Participating schools will receive one K'Nex Solar Deluxe Set worth £100.
