COUNCIL WAS advised of the proposed name change by the Chartered Institute of Building to the Chartered Institute of Construction. Members of the proposed CIOC would be titled 'chartered constructor' rather than chartered builder as at present.
ICE Executive Committee had discussed the proposal on 12 May. Following meetings between Director General & Secretary Roger Dobson and his counterpart at CIOB, it was proposed to write to the Privy Council expressing concern.
Council heard that the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors had objected, the Royal Institute of British Architects had said it did not object, and that the Institution of Structural Engineers did not want to comment on the suggested change of title.
It was emphasised that the ICE's concerns had been expressed on a 'low key basis' since the Institution shares many interests with CIOB and co- operates with it in a number of areas.
