JULIEN PARROTT has quit the Institution, just three months after becoming director of its united corporate communications and regional operations division.
The Institution is now left seeking a new head less than two months after proudly revealing a new-look communications team (NCE 10 January).
The relaunch marked the end of a year of restructuring, which saw a merger of Parrott's role in regional operations and that of communications director Keith Brogan.
Parrott took sole charge of the combined operations as Brogan was made redundant (NCE 6 December 2001).
Parrott has chosen to leave the Institution at the end of May and will pursue a career change. He feels that he leaves it in a better shape than when he arrived one year ago.
'I believe that we have made the first key steps in reawakening in the members a realisation that this really is their Institution and that it is relevant to their lives as civil engineers, ' said Parrott.
'We have developed a long overdue understanding of the vital need for greater membership focus. We have delivered strong indicators that the evergreater devolution to the local associations is an unstoppable policy that can deliver a stout future for all involved, ' he said.
Vice president for communications Colin Clinton praised Parrott for his efforts: 'In the short time that we have worked together, Julien has made a valuable contribution to creating a young and vibrant communications team. This is a stepchange towards a more transparent and relevant Institution.'
