Commercial shale gas extraction to be questioned by Lords committee

The House of Lords Economics Affairs Committee is due to take evidence from companies hoping to extract or exploit shale gas in the UK this afternoon.

The committee is expected to question witnesses from Cuadrilla, Ineos and IGas Energy on the scope for commercial extraction and use in the UK, which areas are likely to be targeted and when extraction could start.

Questioning will also cover the safety aspects of shale gas extraction and look at the risks linked to fracking and what steps are being taken to minimise these risks.
