Coming to terms

Letters

Various items in your news section last week were interesting but contained terminological errors.

Nowadays, wearing course' is described as 'surface course'. Similarly, 'toppings' should be referred to as 'surface courses'. 'Thin bituminous toppings' should be described as either 'thin surfacings' or preferably as 'thin surface course systems'.

'Bituminous mixes' should be described as 'asphalts'.
