THE BRITISH Standards Institution launched BS5930:1999 Code of Practice for site investigations last month.
The opening up of Europe, major technological developments in investigation, the rise of brownfield land use and geoenvironmental work since the last revision in 1981 has meant widespread changes in site investigation working practices. This is reflected in the areas of major change in the code.
Sections such as cable tool drilling have changed little but areas which have experienced significant technologica advances, such as cone penetration testing and geophysics, have undergone major rewrite.
