Clare Short

Clare Short, international development secretary, this week resigned her post, criticising prime minister Tony Blair for breaking promises on the United Nations' role in the reconstruction of Iraq. Short's special envoy to Africa and former Foreign Office minister Baroness Amos has taken her place. Short notably steered the Department for International Development clear of funding major infrastructure projects, focusing instead on education and housing.
