Civils workloads soar

Civils workloads soared in the second quarter of this year, according to research.

A balance of 48% of those surveyed by the Construction Products Association said they had more infrastructure work in Q2 2014 than in the same period of last year.

This completed a year of rising quarterly workloads in the sector. It was also the sharpest single rise in civils workloads in almost a decade of the current format of the survey.

But the picture varied widely by region – a balance of just 11% of Scottish firms saw an increase in work, while the figure was 79% in Wales.

Orders were on the up in the three months to 30 June 2014, with a balance of 38% of civil engineering contractors reporting an increase in orders from the same period in the previous year.
