Civil Engineering Contractors Association

Civils workload is falling, according to 49% of the members of the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA). The most affected sectors are roads, railways, airports, harbours, waterways and flood defence.

Contractors in Scotland and Wales are hardest hit. However, 46% of members contributing to the latest CECA workload trends survey reported order books in better shape than in the previous quarter. There has been slight growth in the employment of skilled and nonskilled operatives, and 85% of respondents said tender prices for new work were holding steady or increasing. All but 3% said repair and maintenance was paying better than three months ago.
