City of London train services disrupted by emergency engineering works

Train services were disrupted at a busy City of London rail station today after a problem occurred on a rail bridge.

Network Rail suspended services from three of Cannon Street Station’s seven platforms while it carried out engineering work on a nearby bridge.

A spokesman said: “The steel plate that sits between the track bed and the bridge deck had moved, opening up a gap for ballast to fall through.

“We have put a new plate in place and are welding it as we speak.”
