Chinese government susped work

The Chinese government has suspended work at 30 major construction sites over alleged violations of environmental regulations.

Among the projects now threatened with cancellation are 26 power plants and a road stretching from Tibet in the south west to the border with North Korea in the north east.

Environmental assessments had not been carried out before construction started, according to the Chinese authorities.
