Chile receives disaster aid from JCB

JCB has donated a 3C backhoe loader, plus attachments and spare parts, to help with reconstruction efforts in Chile’s second city Concepcion, following the 8.8-magnitude earthquake last month.

The firm, which has a backhoe factory in Brazil, is supplying the machine through its Chilean dealer Derco, which is also making available free-of-charge a fleet of used machinery for the authorities to use. The contribution follows JCB’s donation of equipment worth £100,000 to help disaster relief in Haiti.

The disaster is thought to have killed more than 700 people and left about 1.5 million homes damaged. Initial estimates put the cost of rebuilding at between £10bn and £20bn.
