PHONEY PARTNERING will be easy to spot with the use of a new action checklist for construction firms and clients launched today by the Reading Construction Forum.
Speaking at a preview of the report*, Sainsbury's develop- ment director and Forum member Charles Johnston said it will 'show up the rogues and charlatans who just say they are partnering and reveal those who really are.'
The report claims to demonstrate the benefits of the approach through case studies which show that long term partnering can produce cost savings on construction projects of 40% and time savings of 50%. There is also evidence that highly evolved teams can deliver 80% time savings and 50% cost reductions.
Achievable margins for contractors and consultants can climb to 6%-7% compared to a traditional 1%-2%. Non-partnered relationships miss these benefits, the report says.
