CHANNEL TUNNEL

CHANNEL TUNNEL Rail Link Section 1 scooped this year's outstanding achievement award at the National Rail Awards.

The £1.9bn project to build the UK's first high speed rail line for over a century was commended for being delivered on time and on budget.

The 74km long line runs between Fawkham Junction on the outskirts of London and the start of the Channel Tunnel. It has been operational for one year and has already helped reduce congestion on domestic services through Kent. Rail Link Engineering was the project manager.

Network Rail, Carillion Rail and Scott Wilson won the civil engineering achievement award for the Portrack rail bridge replacement near Dumfries in Scotland.
