Celebrating a masterpiece

I am heartened by the growing campaign for the repositioning of Royal Albert Bridge's access platforms. A few years ago, NCE published a letter of mine on this subject which drew much support.

This is a unique site displaying our bridge building heritage: not only Brunel's masterpiece, but also the first of the UK's modern suspension bridges, now enhanced by an award winning strengthening and widening scheme.

As a profession, we must celebrate our achievements.

What better way to follow up the raising of Brunel's profile through the Greatest Briton poll than by highlighting (rather than hiding) his simple epitaph: ENGINEER.
