CATCH 'EM YOUNG: Civil engineers on site are depicted in this painting by five year old Laura Williams. The piece, entitled 'Engineers at Work', has won the 1999 competition 'Today's engineers make the things we need'. The competition, organised by the ICE in partnership with 11 other engineering institutions, is designed to 'inspire youngsters to look at engineering in a modern context'.

ANGLO AMERICAN: ICE President Roger Sainsbury receives honorary international fellowship of the ASCE from his US counterpart Dan Turner, at the US embassy last week. Talks centred on future co-operation of the two bodies.
