'We expected this result, although we hoped for better given all that is going on and our rising profile.

'We are delighted that many support us, but we are not surprised others have yet to glimpse the future of the profession.

'Last week we launched ICEFLOE, our Equal Opportunities Forum, which includes our incareer advice service to members in regard to employment and earnings; but we are not a trade union.

'A number of small changes are being made to the membership qualification arrangements to better tailor the complexities of SARTOR and the simple demands of employees and their employers.

'Finally, remember this is the first time we have had a poll such as this - it won't be the last.'
